Good article. Yes a reptile cannot be cuddled, however, they are becoming increasingly popular as pets because to many they require less attention. Many reptile hobbyists believe that a reptile as a pet fits their busy lifestyle.

Joining the local reptile club or herpetological society is a perfect introduction to reptiles. You will likely meet many reptile owners who will be happy to introduce you and your little one to the responsibility and realities of caring for a scaly pet. The best present I ever received was membership to the New Mexico Herpetological Society. I was just a kid making friends with real live Herpetologists such as Roger Conant, local naturalists, and scientists. I felt like I walked into a room filled with all of my idols at every meeting. I was even invited to their houses and participated on real scientific surveys in the field! Find your local society at: Herpetological Societies
